Overview

Mahindra NuvoSport features a 1.5litre diesel powertrain mated to a manual transmission with an option of AMT gearbox. Interiors have also been spruced up including styling updates and addition of new features. The model series is accessible in six variants namely- N4, N4+, N6, N6 AMT, N8 and N8 AMT. Featuring a muscular front profile, the bulky SUV offers spacious interiors with capacity to accommodate seven people. Mahindra NuvoSport 2016 is another compact SUV from the house of Mahindra that looks formidable. NuvoSport is accessible in 6 different colours - Diamond White, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Molten Red, Regal Blue and Rust Orange.

Exterior

NuvoSport has an aggressive front end. There is a wide intake on the bonnet for top-mounted intercooler. The grille in front goes pretty well with the entire front look. It features the regular vertical fillets finished in black. LED daytime running lights are placed right above the headlamps in high end variants, whereas the lower grades get only LEDs. Rounded fog lamps are enclosed in black housing and front bumper wears dual tone colour theme. The black cladding is all across the SUV and tyres are large or rather fat with minimal gap between arches. The beltline runs parallel to the window frame and is supported by character lines on the flank. However, the compact SUV uses a sportier theme and has a muscular stance with contemporary daytime running lights. Mahindra NuvoSport is available in 6 different colours including Diamond White, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Molten Red, Regal Blue and Rust Orange.

Interior

Mahindra NuvoSport interiors are nicely decorated with a dual tone interior theme of black and grey. The upholstery is also dipped in plush faux leather.  The instrument cluster looks quite sporty with a chrome accented feel that adds value to the aesthetics of the cabin. The seven seat layout includes two rows which can accommodate five people, whereas two jump seats are provided at the back. The jump seats are standard across trims. In terms of space, the cabin is comfortable as there is generous legroom and shoulder room for passengers seated in front as well as rear. There are two cup holders on the floor console and an arm rest is placed in the centre of front seats. Instrument cluster is large and clearly visible. The SUV also gets a flat three spoke steering wheel with mounted controls. The boot space is ample at 412litres which can also be increased to 850litres by folding the second row seats.

Performance

Mahindra NuvoSport is available only in diesel engine option. It is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel from the outgoing Quanto. The diesel engine churns out 100bhp of power and 240Nm of torque. NuvoSport returns a certified mileage of 17.45 kmpl. Transmission options include a 5-Speed manual and an optional AMT (automated-manual transmission). The diesel mill is good for maximum power output of 100bhp at 3750 rpm along with top torque of 240Nm between 1600 to 2800 rpm. Transmission options comprise of a five-speed manual gearbox and AMT tranny. The AMT option is available only on the N6 and N8 variants, while rest of the line-up is available in five-speed manual tranny.

Powered by the mHawk 100 diesel engine, NuvoSport is claimed to return ARAI rated fuel economy of 17.45kmpl. In regards to performance, the engine comes to life post 1500 rpm, prior to this figure it seems unresponsive. The five-speed manual transmission does pretty well and the AMT unit taken from TUV300 also provides decent driving experience, although the gear shifting isn't seamless but overall it does a fair job.

Safety and Security

Mahindra NuvoSport features are quite compact when it comes to braking and safety. The compact SUV features dual airbags for both the driver and the passengers. There are other vital braking features like anti-lock-braking system and electronic brakeforce distribution that make sure the vehicle does not skid or roll in case brakes are exerted abruptly. Mahindra has included key safety features like airbags in front for driver and co-passenger which are available across model series. Similarly, ABS with EBD is absent in the range starting trim. Some of the standard safety features on board include collapsible steering column, side intrusion beams, digital immobilizer and child lock on middle and rear door. Seat belt reminder lamp and seat belt with height adjuster are also missing in the base variant while fog lamps in front are available only on the top end trim.
