Overview
It is the second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan that has come to India and the new-gen model is based on company's modular transverse matrix 'MQB' platform. The turbocharged, four-cylinder oil burner comes mated to the company's tried and tested 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The SUV comes in two variants - Comfortline and Highline, giving a miss to the base Trendline variant. Volkswagen Tiguan comes in 5 different colours - Indium Grey, Deep Black, Oryx White, Tungsten Silver and Atlantic Blue.
Exterior
Volkswagen Tiguan boasts of all new design, better equipment, and a refined engine line-up. Its introduction in Indian market marks Volkswagen's entry into the compact SUV segment in India. The Tiguan design is influenced by the Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE. It measures 4485 mm in length, 1839 mm in width, 1672 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2677 mm. The car rides on large 18 inch diamond cut alloy rims and gets a chrome line that runs across the side. There is also a chrome underlining for the window line and roof rails.
Interior
The cabin layout gets a premium design with new leather and other materials. Standard features across both variants include three-zone climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable front seats, drive mode selection and leather upholstery. The top-of-the-line versions will be equipped with adaptive cruise control (ACC), Side Assist (lane-changing assistant), Pre-Crash proactive occupant protection and Area View (360-degree view). The boot capacity is 615 litres while the ARAI efficiency is 17.06 kmpl.
Performance
Volkswagen Tiguan is powered by a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged TDI diesel engine which belts out top power of 140 BHP at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 340 Nm between 1750-2750 rpm. It is coupled with a 7-speed Dual Shift Gearbox (DSG) automatic transmission, which transmits the power to all four wheels en-route the 4MOTION intelligent all-wheel drive system with variable torque transfer to the rear wheels.
Volkswagen Tiguan comes with MacPherson strut along with lower transverse link and stabilizer bar at front suspension while Multi Link at the rear suspension. Based on MQB architecture, the SUV is lighter by around 60 kg. The 2.0 litre engine is a true performer with DSG gearbox. The gearbox responds instantly to the inputs and it is a sheer pleasure to be behind the wheel.
Safety and Security
Volkswagen Tiguan gets disc brakes at the front as well as at the rear. In addition, Volkswagen has offered a plethora of premium safety fitments as standard with the SUV in form of Pedestrian protection reactive hood, 6-airbags, Hill descent control, driver alert system, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with driver steering recommendation, ABS, ASR, EDL, EDTC, ISOFIX child seat mounting points on rear seat, 3-point seat belts with pretensioners for all seats, safety optimized front head restraints with height and longitudinal adjustment and tyre pressure monitoring system.
