Overview
Volkswagen Polo has always been regarded as a smartly styled vehicle, owing to its European looks and solid build quality. The car is accessible in petrol and diesel versions with a revised power line. Both the fuel trims have four similar variants - Trendline, Comfortline and Highline followed by the performance oriented TSI and TDI variants in petrol and diesel trims, respectively. On the other hand, the interiors benefit from a waft of changes, some are quite new and benefit customers with a lot of new stuff. The petrol variants are unchanged mechanically while the diesel ones get a much stronger and powerful engine in place of the previous 3-cylinder noisy motor. Volkswagen Polo is accessible in 6 different colours - Candy White, Blue silk, Flash Red, Carbon Steel, Reflex Silver and Toffee Brown.
Exterior
Volkswagen Polo is the narrowest of all its strongest competitors and has a relatively lower stance. The company has toned down the usage of chrome in and around the front grille, which makes it look bold and rugged. The hatchback boasts an all-new front bumper, which compliments well the aforesaid thick striped grille around the air dam. The headlamp cluster along with the twin fog lamps looks good, although disappointingly daytime-running lights (DRL) has been left out this time. The Polo also benefits from an all-new set of alloys and body-coloured door handles. The design of the tail-lamp cluster has also been tweaked slightly. Rear is designed aesthetically with minimalistic styling. It gets a sporty integrated spoiler, a set of wide tail lamps and reflectors on the body coloured bumper.
Interior
A number of features added to make driving even more comfortable, which includes new interior upholstery and finishes. The driver's seat is now height adjustable for extended comfort and convenience. The steering wheel is all new, with a flat bottom to give it a sporty feel and with multi-function buttons on the top models. The top end versions also get a piano finish near the Bluetooth and voice command buttons .The dual tone dashboard is also premium looking along with all-new centre console. The instrument cluster consists of tachometer, speedometer, odometer and trip meter. A trip computer however is only part of the top models.
Volkswagen Polo too has tons of space inside for the front cup holders, bottle holders and sunglass holders. The centre console also has a 12V power socket to charge your Smartphone and a parcel tray to keep it. Polo features abundant comfort features(not required) especially inside the cabin which gets cruise control, climatronic automatic air conditioner, height adjuster for driver's seat, speed sensing electronic power steering with tilt and telescopic adjustable functions, central locking, power windows with one-touch operation, rear defogger, steering mounted audio/Bluetooth and voice command controls etc. In terms of entertainment, the car includes CD/MP3 player with USB, Aux-in, SD card input and 4 Speakers. The top-end 'Highline' variant gets Bluetooth connectivity for mobile phones and Voice Command.
Performance
Volkswagen Polo is quite a bit of a driver's car. The new leather strapped 3-spoke speed sensing electronic power steering makes handling effortless. The tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel is fairly light and responds instantly to the driver's directional inputs. The sporty flat-bottom steering wheel design enables an individual to maneuver the hatchback quite comfortably through narrow roads and thick traffic. Coming on to the performance, the Polo is fairly competent. The diesel variants of Polo are capable of accomplishing 100 kmph milestone from standstill in a shade over 13 seconds while clocking a respectable 165 kmph top speed. The petrol is a bit slower to 100 kmph, while the top whack is around 150 kmph. The front suspension comprises of McPherson struts with a stabilizer bar and the rear has a semi-independent trailing arm.
Safety and Security
Volkswagen Polo comes with dual front airbags as standard. Stopping power is provided by disc brake in front axle and drum brakes at rear axle. Handling is smooth, it manages to maintain the poise. The car does not lose grip on road but a slight roll is experienced at all speeds. The Comfortline and Highline versions also get an Antilock Braking System (ABS). Additionally, there are 3-point front seat belts, 3-point rear outer seat belts, lap belt in the middle, speed-sensing auto door locks, fog lamps and many more features to ensure maximum safety of the occupants. For protection, Polo comes with an engine immobilizer and alarm with floating codes to make thefts difficult.
Specifications
Polo is being offered with petrol as well as diesel guise. The 1.2 litre three cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and develops 74 BHP of power at 5400 rpm and 110 Nm of torque. The GT TSI gets a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox which drives the front wheels. The diesel engine is the 1.5 litre four cylinder turbo-diesels and is offered in two states of tune - 89 BHP for the standard Polo and 103 BHP for the Polo GT. Polo delivers a maximum power output of 89 BHP at 4200 rpm and a peak torque of 230 Nm at 2500-3500 rpm. There are no automatic variants on offer in each of the fuel trims.
