Overview
Mahindra XUV500 is possibly one of the most popular SUVs currently on sale in India. First launched in 2011, the XUV500 mid-size SUV was introduced as the home-grown automaker's flagship model in India. Over the years, the SUV has garnered a lot of accolades and popularity among enthusiasts and critics alike for its bold design and expansive feature list. Mahindra XUV500 is accessible in 7 different colors - Dolphin Grey, Lake Side Brown, Moondust Silver, Opulent Purple, Pearl White, Sunset Orange, Coral Red and Volcano Black. The XUV500 also comes with efficient automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system along with a host of comfort and safety features.
Exterior
Mahindra XUV500 is pretty big in size with dimensions measuring 4585 mm in length, 1890 mm in width and 1785 mm in height. And the size is complimented by other styling bits like the tooth-shaped chrome grille up front, projector lamps with LED daytime running light, plastic underbody cladding with faux skid plate. The outside rear-view mirror comes with integrated turn signal lights and the SUV also gets black plastic side skirts. The uniquely designed window frame extends until the C-pillar and rear gets the vertically mounted tail lamps. There is also a well-sculpted tailgate and a plastic cladded rear bumper that houses dual exhaust pipes.
Interior
The cabin of the Mahindra XUV500 is equally stylish and well-equipped. The 2700 mm wheel base offers a huge amount of space which makes a very comfortable 7-seater SUV. Mahindra offers nice comfortable seats upholstered in - jacquard fabric, premium fabric, or leather, depending on the variant you choose. The dashboard design is pretty conventional with larger air con vents, twin pod instrument cluster, and a 7-inch or 6-inch centre displays depending on the variant.
Other comfort features include a panoramic sunroof, 8-way adjustable driver's seat, automatic temperature control, power steering with tilt and telescopic function and a centre arm rest with integrated cup holders is placed at the back.
Performance
Mahindra XUV500 is driven by the muscular 2.2 litre, mHawk diesel powertrain bestowed with the 5th generation variable geometry turbocharger. The athletic engine yields maximum power output of 140 Bhp at 3750 RPM along with 330 Nm of top torque between 1600 to 2800 RPM. Mahindra XUV500 transmission used with the diesel engine is a six-speed synchromesh manual transmission. There is also an option for all wheel drive system available in W10 variant, otherwise the trims come affixed with a front wheel drive system. Drive quality is good and makes XUV500 a favorable car to be driven within the city and across long stretches, especially the automatic trim which has been well-calibrated and offers a punchy drive.
Safety and Security
Braking system is constituted by disc brakes affixed in front as well as rear. XUV500 also gets pivotal braking features such as anti-lock-braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution. The SUV may not feature a string of safety fitments but it comes equipped with a few prominent safety features like dual airbags for driver and passenger, side curtain airbags, electronic stability program with rollover mitigation, hill hold and hill descent control, side impact beams and crumple zones for crash protection. Anti-lock braking system along with electronic brakeforce distribution further strengthens the braking action. Handling is decent but steering isn't as sharp as some of the rivals in the segment. The automatic transmission is more responsive and handles better.
